A Little Background on Haverford Township

Haverford Township was named after the town of Haverfordwest in Wales and was originally founded in 1682. It was officially incorporated in 1911.

The community was laid out by William Penn as part of the Welsh Tract or Barony.

It was primarily agricultural until the second decade of the twentieth century. Then, the community began to see a diversification of its industries.

Today, this community contains portions of the communities of Haverford, Bryn Mawr, Ardmore, Drexel Hill, and Wynnewood. The unincorporated "town" of Havertown lies entirely within Haverford Township.

As of the 2010 Census, this community had a population of 48,491.
